Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

ICT (Information and Communications Technology) is a well-resourced and researched area at
Diamond Creek Primary School. The ICT program encompasses the Digital Technologies Curriculum
where students become confident and creative developers of digital solutions through the
incorporation and further development of their thinking and problem-solving skills. In the Design
and Technology area students put their knowledge into practice by investigating, generating and
refining ideas, planning and managing these ideas and producing and evaluating their designs.
Our ICT program at each level is engaging, challenging and thought provoking. Some of the tools
used at Diamond Creek Primary School include:

Interactive Whiteboards and TV’s
A learning tool used in all classrooms where students are visually stimulated and engaged through
the touch screen. Our Interactive Whiteboards are coupled with Apple TV’s and other devises, so
that students can easily and quite naturally share their work.

iPads
Students in Foundation to Grade 2 have access to a specific set of apps with a class bank of iPads
which accompany and are integrated into the learning experiences in all curriculum areas. In Grades
5 and 6 we have a 1:1 iPad program where students use their own iPad as a tool for learning and as a
devise for storage of their work, becoming a personal electronic learning log or portfolio of work
samples.

Computer
Computer (netbook) banks in the Grade 3 and Grade 4 area are used for the teaching of programs
such as Microsoft Office, Lego Digital Designer and Pivot Animator, to name just a few.

3D printer
The 3D printer is used in a variety of ways. One example being in the Grade 5 and 6 area, where
students participate in a movie making unit printing out a small characters as they use a Stop Motion
App to create a short movie to show the school.

Robotics
Students are thoroughly engaged in their learning which is enhanced by the use of Bee Bots, Edison
Robots, Spheros, Drones Lego and coding software to explore and problem-solve in the world of
robotics.

Google Classrooms
Google and the various Apps that are offered has been successfully used in the Grade 5 and 6 area
for students and teachers to collaborate on the curriculum leading to a detailed understanding of
cloud technology.

Video Conferencing
Through the Webex Meetings system students are able to be involved with live interviews, offsite
experiences and supervised group and classroom communications via the Cisco Webex Conferencing
device, netbook or iPad.

Green Screen
This technology has resulted in enhancing their video and movie-making experiences. In the Grade 5
and 6 area for example, students use the green screen resource in conjunction with the 3D printer to
create a character which was later used in a stop motion video.

Cyber Saftey
In addition to developing an understanding of the impact of their digital footprint, Cyber safety at
Diamond Creek Primary School is of highest priority for our students. Each year level participates in a
program designed to educate students about how to stay safe online. It promotes open discussion
and sharing about the Digital World. Diamond Creek Primary School is proud to be a fully accredited
part of the eSmart community led by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, which encourages
regular review of Cyber safety protocols.
Through our programs students acquire a deep knowledge and understanding of digital systems,
data and information and the processes associated with creating digital solutions so they can take up
an active role in meeting current and future needs.
